Abdomen

SubQPreferred Site

The abdomen is the most common and generally preferred site for subcutaneous peptide injections. It offers a large surface area for rotation and provides consistent absorption rates.

Instructions

  • Inject at least 2 inches (5 cm) from the navel in any direction
  • Avoid the area directly around the navel and the beltline
  • Stay clear of surgical scars, stretch marks, and bruised areas
  • Rotate between four quadrants: upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right
  • Pinch a fold of skin and insert the needle at a 45-90 degree angle

Tips

  • Most common site for SubQ peptide injections — generally offers the best absorption
  • Large surface area allows for excellent rotation options
  • Easy to self-administer without assistance
  • Use a clockwise rotation pattern through the four quadrants

Site Rotation Schedule

Systematic site rotation prevents tissue damage, lipodystrophy, and ensures consistent peptide absorption. Follow these guidelines to establish a sustainable rotation pattern.

Recommended Rotation Pattern

  1. 1.Upper left abdomen
  2. 2.Upper right abdomen
  3. 3.Lower right abdomen
  4. 4.Lower left abdomen
  5. 5.Left thigh
  6. 6.Right thigh
  7. 7.Left upper arm (if applicable)
  8. 8.Right upper arm (if applicable)

Repeat cycle. Allow each site 7+ days between injections.

Key Rules

  • Maintain at least 1 inch between injection points
  • Alternate sides (left/right) with each injection
  • Allow at least 7 days before reusing a site
  • Record each injection site for tracking

Tracking Your Injections

Keep a simple log noting the date, time, injection site, and which side (left/right) was used. This helps ensure consistent rotation and provides valuable information for follow-up appointments with your prescriber.

Important

Repeated injections at the same site can cause lipohypertrophy (fatty lumps) or lipoatrophy (tissue loss), which affects peptide absorption and may be cosmetically concerning. Consistent rotation is essential for long-term therapy.

Clinical Pearl

Many patients find it helpful to use a simple diagram or chart posted on their refrigerator to track their rotation. Some use apps designed for injection tracking to simplify the process.
